UNITED WAY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY'S DAY OF ACTION

will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Greenfield Town Common. The event will once again collect new and "gently" used books for pre-school to middle school aged children. This event aligns with United Way Worldwide's Day of Action, a day established to focus on its pledge to change the course of the future. Watch UWW Day of Action 2012 on the National Mall

WOMEN'S WAY held its "SUPPER FOR SIX" event, collecting more than 250 recyclable grocery bags filledwith nonperishible food items suitable to feed a family of six. The bags were dropped off at the United Way of Franklin County's office on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, and were distributed to food pantries in Orange, Greenfield, and Shelburne Falls in the hopes that families will have additional food resources on hand during the February School Vacation period, when many children will be at home during the and the family's need for additional food will be greater.

 

Music is in the air! The United Way of Franklin County presented its 17th annual A'Cappella Festival on Saturday, April 13, 2013, 7:30 p.m., at the Frontier Regional High School auditorium. Performing this year: the Dartmouth College Aires, the Smith College Smiffenpoofs, the UMass Doo Wop Shop, and the Amherst College Bluestockings. The event raised approximately $3,250 for local programs that support people in need.

UNITED WAY'S EMERGENCY FOOD AND SHELTER PROGRAM BOARD TO DISTRIBUTE FUNDS TO AGENCIES IN NEED. FEMA FUNDS Phase 30, Fiscal Year 2012, EFSP Funding
The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) made the required Congressional Notifications regarding Phase 30, Fiscal Year 2012 Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds and set the amount of $120,000,000 to be awarded. Of that amount, the United Way of Franklin County's Local Board was notified that it would receive a total of $12,970 in emergency funds to be distributed locally. The board deliberated and identified the areas of Distributed Food and Utility Assistance as top priorities for the current funding period, determining the areas where the limited funding could have the greatest impact on the largest number of people.
